If your fluid level is low, it may be a sign of a leak, and an inspection will also show that. ATF frequently becomes hot after driving the car, which can occasionally cause a breakdown in its composition and impair its lubricating properties. Over time, many internal parts might deteriorate and discharge impurities into the fluid.
Fresh ATF is an intense cherry red color, whereas unclean fluid is grey or black and has a burnt-like odor. Metal particles can also be seen by wiping a clean cloth over a dirty liquid. Depending on the mileage, you should change your transmission fluid if any of these are present.
Replace the filter. It is a crucial step after doing a transmission flush. Though it is more typical for the filters to be situated internally, a few vehicles feature external spin-on devices similar to oil filters. In such circumstances, it will be necessary to remove the transmission pan and replace it. It is a good idea to get your fluid changed and the filter replaced at once when your pan gasket has started to leak.
